Alabama First Class Pre-K Registration

About Pre-Kindergarten

  • The Alabama First Class Pre-K is a grant-funded program operated by the Office of School Readiness. Enrollment in these programs is based on a random selection process that takes place in the spring.The following schools participate in this program:

    • Central School*
    • Harvest Elementary
    • Hazel Green Elementary
    • Legacy*
    • Madison County Elementary
    • Madison Cross Roads Elementary
    • Monrovia Elementary*
    • Mt. Carmel Elementary*
    • New Hope Elementary
    • New Market School
    • Owens Cross Roads School
    • Walnut Grove School. 

    *The Pre-K programs at Central, Legacy, Monrovia, and Mt. Carmel charge tuition for students to attend.

Requirements

    • Pre-registration is open to all children four years of age on or before 9/1/23* who are residents of Alabama (Children who are eligible for kindergarten are not eligible for pre-k).
    • Registrants must provide a copy of the child's birth certificate and proof of residency to the local school prior to random selection.

    Documents REQUIRED for pre-registration:

    1. Child's Birth Certificate
    2. Certificate of Immunization
    3. Current Utility Bill
    4. Additional Proof of Residency
    5. Custody papers, if applicable

    NOTE: Children are ineligible for the random selection if the required documents are not on file with the local school.

    • Public school system pre-k programs may have zoning requirements that determine eligibility for attending a program at a particular school. Contact the school for attendance zone information.
    • You may only pre-register at the school you are zoned to attend
    • There is no registration fee for First Class Pre-K program
    • Upon enrollment, a child's immunization record must be provided to the school
    • No child will be denied participation on the basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.
