COVID-19 Protocol for 2023-2024 School Year

  • Positive COVID-19 Case: 

    • The positive individual will stay home for a minimum of five days from the start of symptoms or the date of a positive test if asymptomatic.

    • The positive individual may return early on Day 6 provided that they have been free of fever, vomiting, and diarrhea for a full 24 hours and other symptoms have improved.

    • Should a child or staff member return before Day 10 and be unable to complete the school day due to illness, they will be required to remain at home until Day 10.

    • Please contact your school nurse to report a positive test.

    Exposure to COVID-19 Case:

    • MCSS will not require quarantine/exclusion following exposure to a case of COVID-19. A parent or guardian may still elect to keep a child home due to exposure. A parent note will be required to cover these absences.

    Masks in School:

    • Masks will not be required within the school building, on school buses, or at any school-sponsored event or activity.

    • Masks will remain optional.

    Symptomatic Individual in School:

    • Staff or children reporting to the school nurse with the following symptoms will be sent home in accordance with standing MCSS illness policies:

      • Fever over 100°

      • Vomiting

      • Diarrhea

    • All of the above symptoms must be resolved for a full 24 hours without the use of medication before the individual may return to school.

    • Should a staff member or student report a loss of taste and/or smell, the individual will either need to seek MD evaluation OR remain home for a minimum of 5 days.
