Meal Requirements
Meal Requirements-
Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act
In 2010, the USDA put new standards in place for all school meals. These standards allow for more fresh fruits and vegetables daily, lower fat milk options, trans-fat free foods, and more whole-grain offerings. In 2014, a sodium limit was added to the meal standards.
Our school nutrition staff has found great ways to get students excited about healthy food choices and we will continue to work on creative solutions to ensure healthy foods appeal to students.
We hope parents will support this effort by encouraging their students to try healthier meals. Students are far more likely to pick up a fruit or vegetable in the lunch line if they have been introduced to those foods at home.
Smart Snacks
Beginning in the school year 2014-2015, all foods sold at school during the school day are required to meet nutrition standards. The Smart Snacks in School regulation applies to food sold a la carte, in the school store, vending machines, and any other venues where food is sold to students.
