Career Technical Education

Career and Technical Education is a group of educational programs in Madison County Schools that offer both academic and career-oriented courses that provide students with the opportunity to explore career and educational options prior to graduation in order to make an informed decision about their individual education and career plan. These programs specialize in the skilled trades, applied sciences, modern technologies, and career preparation in order to provide students with skills needed in today’s economy and workforce.

These career and technical programs provide a wide range of learning experiences spanning many different career clusters, fields, and industries, such as;
Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Architecture & Construction, Arts, A/V Technology & Communication, Business Management and Administration, Education and Training, Finance, Government & Public Administration (JROTC), Health Sciences, Hospitality & Tourism, Human Services, Information Technology, Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security, Manufacturing, Marketing, Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics.

Students that participate in Career Technical programs have the opportunity to gain more experience by participating in internships, job shadowing, cooperative education, and by earning industry recognized credentials. Many Career and Technical Education programs that are offered provide students with the opportunity to earn either articulated or dual enrollment credit with the community college system.

Students participating in Career Technical Education programs also have the opportunity to participate in Career Technical Student Organizations related to their field of study. These organizations provide students with the opportunity to participate in skills competitions at the local, state, and national levels, as well as, participate in service learning projects, leadership training activities, and civic consciousness projects.
