Advanced Placement Program

Dedicated to preparing our students for a competitive, post-secondary future, Madison County Schools offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  Beginning in 6th grade, students are provided opportunities to enroll in College Preparatory courses in preparation for the rigorous AP course load offered in the high schools.  Students who are planning to enroll in post-secondary institutions are strongly encouraged to participate in one or more AP courses during their high school career.  Advanced Placement courses are designed to challenge students academically and will aid students in learning how to better manage time and enhance study skills.  Before registering for any AP courses, students should meet with a counselor for further guidance and proper placement.  Course offerings may be found in the Madison County Schools High School Academic Guide.

 

Students enrolled in AP courses will participate in the end of course exams offered by the College Board in May.  When scoring successfully on the related exam, students may be given the opportunity to advance and avoid introductory postsecondary courses saving families thousands of dollars in college tuition and associated fees.  Check out specific colleges' guidelines on accepting AP scores for credit and placement by searching on the AP Credit Policy database.
