STARTING SALARY (5/8/2024) - $18k

INSURANCE RATES
Single- $30/month
Single with 1 child- $207/month
Married no children- $282/month
Married with children- $308/month

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with necessary endorsements
- Certified by the State of Alabama
- Meet physical and medical requirements
- Must be insurable 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspects school bus before operating 
  • Observes designated routes
  • Obeys Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations
  • Completes written reports as required
  • Maintains clean school bus
  • Reports all bus mechanical problems
  • Reports student discipline problems
  • Lifting, driving
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Study the Alabama Commercial Drivers License Manual and obtain the CDL Class B Learner’s Permit with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. When you arrive at the License Office tell the staff you want to become a Bus Driver.
     
  • Register your Learner's Permit with the FMCSA and sign the query permission form. FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)
     
  • Set up an AIM  account. AIM(ALSDE Identity Management)Complete the fingerprint and background check.
     
  • Apply @ Bus Driver Application for MCSS (Madison County School System)
     
  • Bring all paperwork to Glenn Hubbard at the Transportation Department and schedule a pre-employment drug screen and physical (DOT preferred). Once you have passed your drug test and obtained your physical, contact Glenn Hubbard, who will schedule your CDL Theory Class through Calhoun Community College.
     
  • After completing the CDL Theory Class, you will attend a Driving Class at the Transportation Department.
     
  • You will attend a scheduled Alabama School Bus Driver’s Class that will conclude with a written test and a driving skills test.
     
  • Bring your permanent CDL license to the Transportation Department. We will make a copy of your license and then recommend you for employment.
