STARTING SALARY (5/8/2024) - $18k
INSURANCE RATES
Single- $30/month
Single with 1 child- $207/month
Married no children- $282/month
Married with children- $308/month

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with necessary endorsements
- Certified by the State of Alabama
- Meet physical and medical requirements
- Must be insurable
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Inspects school bus before operating
- Observes designated routes
- Obeys Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations
- Completes written reports as required
- Maintains clean school bus
- Reports all bus mechanical problems
- Reports student discipline problems
- Lifting, driving
- Performs other related duties as assigned
How to Become a Bus Driver
- Fill out the Online Application for Madison County School
- Bus Driver Application
- Schedule and Complete a Background Check
- If you have a Valid CDL and a Current Bus Driver Certification, please call 256-859-9447 and ask for Randy Whitten or Daniel Spears.
- If you wish to complete Bus Training, please follow the steps below:
- Study Chapters 1-5 and 10 in the Alabama Commercial Drivers Manual.
- Call your local DMV office to schedule an appointment to obtain your Learner's Permit.
- Bring your learner’s permit to the Transportation Office at 146 Shields Road.
- Pick up your training schedule.
- During training, you will be asked to take a pre-employment drug test.
- After successfully getting your Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements, transportation will submit your Request to Hire for Board Approval.
Out-of-Pocket Expenses include: Background Check, DMV Exam Fees, and Bus Driver Physical.
