I have spent the majority of my career at Sparkman High. I have been a classroom teacher here for 20 years and served as the school media specialist for two years.

Here is a small snapshot of my life as a classroom teacher while at Sparkman:

While in my second year of teaching at SHS, I began teaching a Classical Literature elective that has since evolved into Myths, Monsters & Shakespeare. This elective allows college-bound students to read and discuss literature that is not always covered in English class, allowing them exposure to texts they may encounter in a college setting. The past two years, I have been working to include a wider lens into the world of mythology, moving beyond Greek/Roman myth and the classical Greek dramas.

I taught AP Language & Comp. for nine years, spending each summer working on different endeavors to enhance my craft at teaching this class. From attending and/or leading trainings to attending the AP reading in June, I was committed to staying current and working on my craft as an educator. For two years, I worked with AP Literature & Comp. students, helping them transition back into the world of fiction - reading and writing with an analytical eye.

This year I will teach juniors and continue teaching the Myths, Monsters, and Shakespeare elective. I look forward to working with the students in my class on becoming stronger readers, writers, and thinkers - and learning from them just as much as they will learn from me.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the hotel business, following in my mom's footsteps. I began working at the front desk of the Tudor Hotel, located in South Miami Beach, and when I returned to Huntsville for college, I worked for Holiday Inn. I first worked at the front desk and then moved into the sales office where I was a sales coordinator, responsible for writing contracts, organizing meetings, wedding receptions, etc. I loved every moment of it; however, my heart was set on teaching.

I have lived in several places in the South, including New Orleans and Miami Beach. I love to travel and experience new cultures and ideas. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, exercising, napping, and playing Animal Crossing.
