Adapted Physical Education Services (APE)

  • At their respective schools, APE teachers, who are certified PE teachers, provide direct services to students and consultation with teachers per IEP specifications. The APE teacher is a part of the IEP team, conducts formal and informal PE assessments and progress monitoring, and drafts IEP goals and services for students.  The APE teacher is to be contacted directly to discuss: referral procedures for a student for whom the team is considering APE services, implementation of IEP goals for APE, service delivery options, and efficacy of services. APE services are utilized when modifications to the ALSDE 2019 Physical Education Course of Study are required.
