Mr. McNealey was born in Jasper, Alabama and attended Walker High School. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Language Arts from Alabama State University, he returned to his alma mater in 1997 where he taught English 11, coached football and track and field, and served as the Key Club Sponsor. In 2000, he moved to Northport, Alabama and began teaching and coaching football and track and field at Tuscaloosa County High School. While at Tuscaloosa County, the boys track program won the 2002 outdoor state championship. Also in 2012, he was recognized as the Tuscaloosa County High School Alabama State Teacher of the year nominee as well as being recognized as the 2015 nominee for the Jacksonville State University Teacher Hall of fame. He also served as the English Department chair from 2016 to 2021.

In 2006, he received his masters degree in Education Leadership from The University of Alabama. He currently teaches English 10 and 12, serves as the head track coach, and serves as an assistant varsity football coach at Sparkman. His wife, Jacqueline, serves as the Federal Programs specialist for Scottsboro City Schools and he has four children; Amaya, a senior Engineering major at North Carolina A&T University, twin sons, Noah and Jonah who are juniors at Sparkman, and Gabriel, an eighth grader at Monrovia Middle School.
