Allen Perkins

Mr. Allen Perkins currently serves the Madison County School System as Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services. Most recently, he was appointed to complete the remaining term of the previous superintendent and served in that capacity for 3 years.

Mr. Perkins is a native of Virginia. He relocated to Huntsville’s Oakwood University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science Education. Mr. Perkins was often inspired by a sign at the campus entrance that reads “Enter to Learn,” and when leaving the campus, it reads, “Depart to Serve.” This has been his purpose and motivation for his entire career.

Mr. Perkins began his teaching career in 2003 as a middle school teacher and coach. He served as the Assistant Principal at Legacy Elementary and then named Buckhorn Middle School principal. Moving to the district level, Mr. Perkins was named Supervisor of Instruction, and in 2018, he was named the district’s first Director of Equity and Innovation.

During his tenure as Superintendent, the district has expanded support services (including food security and mental health for students) by securing additional funding and support from community partners.

Mr. Perkins enjoys spending time camping, hiking, and being outdoors. He is actively involved in his church, always seeking the opportunity to serve the community’s needs. One of Mr. Perkins’ favorite quotes is from Ellen G White: “Education is the harmonious development of the physical, mental, and spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” For Mr. Perkins, all leadership is through service.
