Alabama SUN Bucks: $120 Per Child for Summer Groceries

This summer, Alabama is launching SUN Bucks, a grocery assistance program providing a one-time $120 benefit per eligible school-age child. To ensure these funds reach the correct households, families must verify their mailing addresses by March 2, 2026.

1. Who Qualifies?

Most eligible students will be enrolled automatically. This includes:

  • Households already receiving SNAP or TANF.

  • Students "directly certified" via Medicaid.

  • Students identified by their school as being in foster care, experiencing homelessness, or part of a migrant program.

  • Students in households that meet income guidelines for free or reduced-price school meals.

2. The Critical Deadline: March 2

Because benefits are sent via a physical EBT card through the mail, having a correct address on file is mandatory.

  • Action: If you have moved or changed addresses, contact your child’s school immediately to update your information in PowerSchool.

  • Alternative: You can also update your contact information via the Alabama SUN Bucks Parent Portal at alabama-sunbucks.com.

3. When to Apply

If your child is eligible based on income but your household does not receive SNAP/TANF or the specific services listed above, you must submit an application. Applications will be accepted through August 15, 2026.
